Confidential Information – What You Must Know! :

1. Every Business Has Information That Requires Destruction.
Without the proper safeguards, information (customers lists, price lists, sales statistics, drafts of bids and correspondence, memos) ends up in the dumpster where it is readily, and legally, available to anybody. The trash is considered by business espionage professionals as the single most available source of competitive and private information from the average business. Any establishment that discards private and proprietary data without the benefit of destruction, exposes itself to the risk of criminal and civil prosecution, as well as the costly loss of business.

2. Recycling Is Not An Adequate Alternative For Information Destruction
There is no fiduciary responsibility inherent in the recycling scenario. Paper is given away or sold and, by doing so, a company gives up the right say in how it is handled. There is, also, no practical means of establishing the exact date that a record is destroyed. In the event of an audit or litigation, this could be a legal necessity. And, further, if something of a private nature does surface, the selection of this unsecured process could be interpreted as negligent. For all these reasons, the choice of recycling as a means of information destruction is undesirable from a risk management perspective.

3. A Certificate Of Destruction Does Not Relieve A Company From Its Obligation To Keep Information Confidential
Since a business cannot transfer its responsibility to maintain confidentiality, it must be certain that it is dealing with a reputable company with superior security procedures. Unfortunately, there are those information destruction services that provide certificates of destruction while having no semblance of security and, in some cases, no destruction process available to them. Anyone interested in contracting a data destruction service is advised to thoroughly review their policies and procedures, conduct an initial site audit and conduct subsequent unannounced audits. On-site document destruction is also an option in most cities.

For Individuals:

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the World. Approximately, 11.8 million Americans (one in twenty adults) have been victimized by identity theft as of April 2003, according to research by Star Systems. Credit card numbers, driver’s license numbers, social security numbers, date of birth, and other personal identification can net criminals thousands of dollars in a very short period of time.

1. Before disposal, shred paycheck stubs and W-2 forms that contain your social security number and often your name and address. This is a common way for dumpster divers to obtain important identification

2. Shred your bank statements and any tax documents when you dispose of them

3. Safeguard your credit, debit, and ATM card receipts and shred them before disposing of them

4. Destroy all checks immediately when you close a checking account. Destroy or keep in a secure place, any courtesy checks that your bank or credit card company may mail to you

5. Destroy all unused pre-approved credit card and loan applications. The mailbox thief only has to fill them out and redirect the return address to start using your credit

Our secure facility is equipped with full access control and 24 hour video monitoring with 90 days recording. The National Association of Information Destruction, (NAID ), routinely conducts unannounced procedural audits which are required to maintain our “AAA” Certification.

“Recycling” did not begin in 1970 with the first Earth Day. An industry formed long before, dating back hundreds of years, these individuals were called junk or scrap dealers, carters, ragmen, etc. Much less glamorous, and in some cases not as socially acceptable as today’s recycling operations. These individuals bought and sold scrap metals, paper and textiles, traveling door to door, and from business to business, on foot or with horse drawn wagons – this was the beginning of the recycling industry as we know it.

In the early 1940’s Frank Miller Sr., our company founder, saw an opportunity and began a business. Buying and selling everything from scrap metals, paper, textiles, and used furniture, he became known as the local “Junk Dealer”, occupying a local mill warehouse.

This business was located in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, an area known at the time for its jewelry industry. These businesses generated scrap metals in various forms, and also required packaging for their products, which in turn created a local box and packaging industry. It was a perfect location for a company trading in scrap metals and paper, and created a lucrative and vibrant business opportunity. This company was named “Frank Miller & Son”, after Frank Sr. and his son, Frank “Red” Miller.

The company remained at this location for the next 60 years, and experienced many turns in the economy which tested the will and determination of the family business. Despite these challenging times the company managed to grow and prosper. As years passed, many cities and towns adopted mandatory policies and practices for sorting and recycling cans, bottles, paper, and other materials, in an effort to respond to a growing environmental consciousness, and address the widespread notion that landfills were disappearing.

In the late 1960’s Frank Miller Sr. handed the business down to his son, Frank, who continued to grow the business. In the 1980’s, Randy Miller, (third generation), became President of the company and changed the company name to “Miller Recycling Corporation”, in an effort to better define the services the company provided.

As the desire to recycle grew, and the costs associated with disposal increased, so did Miller Recycling Corporation. This growth resulted in a need to increase the size of the company’s facility, so a second building in Plainville, Massachusetts was purchased.

In 2005 the original location was sold and a new site was purchased at 73 Plymouth Street, Mansfield, MA, in the Cabot Business Park, This new site is located on 8 acres of industrial property, and includes a 73,000 square ft high bay warehouse, high production baling system, is equipped with an on site truck scale, 3 additional floor scales, 10 loading docks, full 4 car railroad siding, maintenance area, office facilities, conference room and more. From this location we operate a fleet of 10 tractors and roll offs, including over 300 trailers and roll off containers.

Shortly after this move it was decided to begin an additional business, Northeast Data Destruction, to address the growing demand for secure destruction and recycling of confidential files and documents. This company is located in a dedicated site and immediatly obtained NAID “AAA” Certification, to offer our clients the beneifts and security this requires.

To all our current customers: We thank you for your support. To all others we welcome the opportunity to be of service to you.

LET US HELP YOU PROPERLY RECYCLE YOUR OBSOLETE ELECTRONICS!

It is well known that one of the fastest growing segments of the recycling industry is associated with electronic scrap, or “E-Waste”. This includes all types of electronic items such as computers, monitors, TVs, power supplies, telephones, (both land based and mobile), as well as the miscellaneous items associated with these components.

Technology is expanding at a faster rate every year – and with this expansion comes the need (and desire) to own the most advanced technology available. This fact, and the fact that the average American owns several electronic devices, equates to a growing demand for proper electronics recycling.

Safely recycling these items is more important than just about any other recyclable commodity. This is due to the low cost and often negative value of the components contained within these electronic products.

Items such as monitors and TVs typically have no value, and are banned from disposal in landfills and incinerators due to the lead content contained within the glass. If these are broken and disposed of improperly they can cause potential damage to the environment.

An additional challenge associated with recycling E-Waste is the varied number of components each item may consist of. A standard computer could actually be made up of 30+ different types of materials, such as 6-8 different grades of plastics, steel, aluminum, and many other metals. Each item has to be disassembled into its basic materials to obtain the most value and make for efficient recycling.

There is much discussion regarding the export of whole computers, monitors, TVs, and other components. Many countries accept this type of material only to find that the end “market” is not properly controlled or licensed. This has resulted in improper dumping of low-grade components once the high value material is removed. Lack of environmental controls in these operations also creates unsafe work conditions for employees.

There are many fully licensed and compliant companies located abroad that process E-Waste in an environmentally correct fashion, however, the end markets must be researched and approved prior to shipment. Moreover, many of the best markets for E-Waste components may be in foreign countries due to low labor cost, where environmental compliance and working conditions are often compromised.

It is the goal of Miller Recycling Corporation to conform to strict guidelines when marketing this type of scrap. We partner with only fully licensed and reputable companies that adhere to strict environmental guidelines not only at their location, but also with any downstream vendors and consumers. We also adhere to a “no export” policy for intact computers, monitors, TVs, and components.

We buy of all grades of recyclable paper, either baled, boxed, rolls, on skids or in loose form. We will purchase less than trailer load quantities to multiple trailer loads regardless of its location. Transportation and loading is available.

Our company offers competitive pricing, typically tied to the independent market publication of your choice. We have the experience and expertise to deal with all your paper and packaging waste, regardless of volume, condition, or location.

We help maximize the amount of materials recovered and provide recycling services to a wide spectrum of business, no matter what the size of your waste stream. Our accounts produce less than 100 lbs to over 100,000 lbs per day.

Miller Recycling will provide on site balers, conveying systems, stationary compactors, trailers and containers for use on our customer’s sites. We work closely with each client to help them maximize the value of their scrap.

Scrap paper and packaging are the largest single portion of commercial waste streams. Every new ton of waste paper recycled will significantly reduce collection, transportation and disposal costs.

“It’s all about studying your waste stream, minimizing the cost, and maximizing the value of the recoverable material. We apply the experienced gained in assisting hundreds of companies to help you achieve maximum results.”

Whenever possible landfill and incineration options are avoided, as they not only increase costs but do not make environmental sense.

Miller Recycling Corporation has a cost effective and environmentally sound solution to the growing problem of “Hard to Manage” waste. We operate a fully permitted and licensed facility addressing the need to provide an environmentally sound solution to handle various types of waste which prove difficult to recycle, transport, and dispose of.

These materials include scrap bedding and mattresses, box springs and foundations, and upholstered furniture of all types These items are generated by retailers, manufacturers, hotels, landlords, homeowners, and disposal sites in substantial quantity.

As an example the average retired mattress is a 23 cubic foot assemblage of foam, steel, cotton, and wood. Due to diminishing landfill space and the increase in value of this space; disposal is no longer a viable, or the most environmentally friendly alternative.

Our recycling services include recovery and re-marketing of these commodities. We are able to provide these materials to end markets in whole or in part, for reuse and/or re-manufacture. Should recovery, re-marketing or re-manufacture not be an option – due to condition or contamination, material is then disposed of in an environmentally sound and safe method.

“Hard to Manage” waste such as this is designed and manufactured with various types and grades of materials, all with the intention of “not” coming apart. This fact can render recycling these products difficult, due to the extremely high labor cost involved with proper dis-assembly. Our goal is to offer a cost effective alternative to common disposal techniques.

If you are currently generating material that you are interested in recycling, or would like a quote or proposal to assist you with increasing the value or efficiency of your operation – please fill out our online service request form or contact us directly at 1- 800-783-6766 and speak directly to one of our Recycling Specialists.

About Miller Recycling Corporation

In the early 1940’s Frank Miller Sr., our company founder, saw an opportunity and made a decision to start a business. He began by buying and selling everything from scrap metals, paper, textiles, and used furniture, and became known as a “Junk Dealer”, occupying a local mill warehouse.

This business was located in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, an area known at the time for its jewelry industry. These companies generated scrap metals in various forms, and also required packaging for their products, which in turn created a local box and packaging industry. It was a perfect location for a company trading in scrap metals and paper, and created a lucrative and vibrant business opportunity. This company was named “Frank Miller & Son”, after Frank Sr. and his son, Frank “Red” Miller.

In the late 1960’s Frank Miller Sr. handed the business down to his son, Frank, who continued to grow the business. In the 1980’s, Randy Miller (third generation) became President of the company and changed the name to “Miller Recycling Corporation”, in an effort to better define the services the company provided.
